Plaster Repairs and Making Good

Cracks, holes, blown plaster and chases after rewiring or plumbing, repaired so they blend with the surrounding wall.

Room with walls stripped back and prepared before plastering

Quick answer

What is making good in plastering?

Making good means repairing plaster that has been damaged or cut away during other work — such as chases for cables and pipes, removed fixtures, new doorways or knocked-through walls — so the area is flush with the surrounding surface and ready for decoration.

Repairs we carry out

We repair structural hairline cracks once any cause has been addressed, patch holes and damaged corners, cut out and replace blown or hollow plaster, and make good around new windows, doors, sockets, pipework and steels after other trades have finished.

The aim of a good repair is that you cannot see it once the wall is painted. That means cutting back to a sound edge, matching the thickness and background of the existing plaster and feathering the finish into the surrounding surface.

Repair or re-plaster?

When a wall has several separate areas of damage, it is sometimes quicker and more consistent to skim or re-plaster the whole wall than to patch it. We will tell you when that is the case and price both options so you can decide.

FAQ

Plaster Repairs questions

Can’t see your question? Contact us or call 07377 741264.

Why does plaster sound hollow when tapped?

Hollow plaster has lost its bond with the wall behind it, often because of age, damp or vibration. It may look fine but can crack or fall later. It should be cut out and replaced before decorating.

Do you take on small repair jobs?

Yes, particularly where they are part of a renovation or where several repairs can be combined in one visit. Tell us about the job and we will let you know how we can help.
