Quick answer

What is dry lining?

Dry lining is the process of fixing plasterboard to walls or ceilings, either directly with adhesive (dot and dab) or onto a timber or metal framework, instead of applying wet backing plaster. The boards are then jointed or skimmed for decoration. Dry lining is faster to install, adds less moisture to a building and can include insulation, acoustic or fire-rated boards.

Systems we install

We install direct-bond (dot and dab) linings, metal furring and resilient bar systems, metal stud partitions, timber stud walls, and MF suspended ceilings. Boards are selected for the location: standard, moisture-resistant, fire-rated, acoustic or impact-resistant, and insulated laminate boards where thermal performance is needed.

On commercial projects we install to the manufacturer’s tested system details so that fire and acoustic ratings shown on drawings are achieved on site, with deflection heads, fire stopping interfaces and service penetrations coordinated with the relevant trades.

Board and skim or tape and joint

Most residential dry lining is finished with a plaster skim for a hard, uniform surface. Many commercial projects specify tape and jointing instead, which is quicker and cleaner on large areas. We offer both and will advise on which suits your programme, budget and finish expectations.

Benefits

  • Faster than traditional wet plastering on large areas
  • Less moisture introduced, so decoration can start sooner

  • Conceals services and uneven masonry
  • Straight, true walls and ceilings for modern finishes

Suitable property and project types

  • Office fit-outs and refurbishments

FAQ

Dry Lining questions

Can’t see your question? Contact us or call 07377 741264.

Is dry lining better than wet plastering?

Neither is better in every case. Dry lining is faster, adds less moisture and suits new partitions and large areas. Wet plaster is harder-wearing and is often preferred on solid masonry and in period properties. We recommend the method based on the building and your programme.

Can you install fire-rated and acoustic partitions?

Yes. We build fire-rated and acoustic partitions and ceilings to the specified manufacturer system, using the correct boards, framing and sealants for the rating required.

Do you install suspended ceilings?

We install MF plasterboard suspended ceilings, including bulkheads and access panels. We do not install exposed-grid tile ceilings.
